Reminder: CPS Returning to In-Person Learning January 24

January 21, 2022

Dear CPS Families,

We are looking forward to seeing our students back in our buildings on Monday, January 24!

As a reminder, CPS has strong safety protocols including a staff vaccine mandate, universal indoor masking, social distancing, upgraded HVAC systems, and cleaning and sanitizing of buildings. School is among the safest places for our students and staff!

CPS has been working to:

  • Accelerate hiring and add additional substitute teachers
  • Increase parent and partner outreach and support
  • Deep clean buildings and classrooms and reinforce our safety processes
  • Add safety protocols for preschool classrooms and some specialized classrooms

Safety Reminders

  • Stay home if you are feeling sick and call your child's school nurse if your child tests positive or shows symptoms of COVID-19
  • Wear a clean mask when indoors
  • Wash hands frequently
  • Maintain 3-feet minimum social distancing
  • Don't share food or drinks
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing when not wearing a mask

CDC Quarantine Guidelines for Staff and Students

  • The CDC has reduced quarantine times for some individuals with COVID-19.
    • An individual must quarantine at home for a minimum of 5 days from the date of last exposure and can return on day 6 if no symptoms developed
    • An individual with symptoms must isolate at home for 5 days
      • They may test on or near day 5, and with a negative result, may return to school/work on day 6
      • If an individual receives a positive result, they must isolate for 10 days from symptom onset date if symptomatic
    • An individual who chooses not to test must quarantine at home for 10 days from the onset of symptoms

*Footnotes

  1. If you had a severe allergic reaction after a previous dose or if you have a known (diagnosed) allergy to a COVID-19 vaccine ingredient, you should not get that vaccine. If you have been instructed not to get one type of COVID-19 vaccine, you may still be able to get another type.
  2. CDC has updated its recommendations for COVID-19 vaccines with a preference for mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) vaccines. Learn more about the updated guidance on the use of Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine.
  3. The primary series of these vaccinations includes a third dose for people ages 18 years and older with moderate to severe immunocompromise. This third dose occurs 28 days after the second dose in the primary series.
  4. The primary series of this vaccination includes a third dose for people ages 5–17 years with moderate to severe immunocompromise. The third dose occurs 28 days after the second dose in the primary series.
  5. You should get your second shot as close to the recommended 3-week or 4-week interval as possible. You should not get the second dose early.

Community Vaccine Clinics Sponsored by CPS

  • One of the best ways to stay healthy and reduce the impact of COVID-19 is to get fully vaccinated. This includes getting a booster for those who are eligible. We encourage all individuals ages 5 and up to get vaccinated. Click here to view vaccine opportunities
